Charged in a criminal case, what happens now?

As a suspect you have the right to defence counsel and no obligation to speak. The two are connected: a statement given without knowing the case file is hard to undo later.
As a rule, you may choose your own defence counsel, also when a lawyer has already been assigned.
In economic crime cases the file is often extensive, and the defence relies as much on understanding accounts as on criminal law.
The first weeks matter most. Early access to the material makes it possible to influence the direction of the case before it hardens.
